The family of William "Bill" Lester Groves has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

Bill was born 5 May, 1927, he passed away on 2 July, 2020. He was 93 years old.

Bill was a private first class in the US Marine Corps. Bill was a part of the "Greatest Generation". He joined the Marine Corps 15 September 1944 and left the Corps 1 year later 15 December 1945. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart. He was shot while helping to carry a gurney for an injured Marine during combat during WWII.

Bill is survived by his wife loving wife of 63 years Mona, sons Bill Jr and Bob, daughter Barri. Three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Bill and his wife Mona were owners of the Ramona Oil Co. in Ramona, Ca. for 38 years.

Bill loved working on cars and trucks, especially his 1956 Ford pickup.. He was a member of the San Diego Limited Pickup Club for many years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 50 years, also a member of the American Legion in Ramona.

The family has asked for the PGR to ride with them from Ramona to Miramar National Cemetery.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will accompany from Ramona to the cemetery, approx 26 miles.  All are welcome.  If you do not wish to ride on the accompany we will meet you at the cemetery.

NOTE: IMPORTANT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS - FACE COVERINGS/MASKS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES AT MIRAMAR NATIONAL CEMETERY AND YOU MUST MAINTAIN 6' DISTANCING FROM OTHER PEOPLE.
