The family of Walter Edwin Briese has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Walter joined the Navy in June of 1976 and retired in January 1997 as an Operation Specialist First Class (OS1, SW). His awards/citations included the Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal, Battle “E” Ribbon, Humanitarian Service, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Pistol Sharpshooter, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement, Southwest Asia Medal w/Campaign Star, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Master Training Specialist.  He was involved with Desert Storm and Operation Desert Storm.

Walter passed away at sixty-three years old of natural causes.

After leaving the Navy Walter went to work as a middle school teacher, teaching history. His hobbies included being a big fan of Star Trek. He built large model ships. He had a large collection of model trains. He also loved cats, he had six of them.

Walter is survived by his sister Julie Lacher and half-sister Wanda Mair, his sons Walter Briese II, Edwin Briese, and his daughter Krystle Warren. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family is asking for PGR accompaniment from the Partridge Creek Mortuary to Miramar National Cemetery.
