The caregiver for this Hero, Steven Edward Latimer, age 66, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him with a Flag Line at his funeral service.  We are honored to do so.

Steve Latimer enlisted in the US Navy on Sept 7, 1973 right after graduating High School.  He served aboard submarines as a Sonar Technician for 6 years until his honorable discharge on Sept 5, 1979 at the rank of STS2.  Some of the medals and awards he received were First Good Conduct Medal For Period Ending 77/09/06, National Defense Service Medal. - BE& E/P School, Submarine Sonar Tech/A School, Sonar Tech School Phase 1 and 1, Electronic Inter Course, Sonar Sounding Set AN/BQ-17 Combined Maint Course.

After the military Steve worked as an Electronic Engineer for computers and radios, he also worked for a Water Plant for many years.  He kind of lost his way along the years and sadly ended up homeless for many years as so many Veterans do.  His caregiver for the last 5 yrs met him and gave of her time and experience in getting him care with the VA and his own apartment, getting him off the streets.  This woman, an angel on earth, does this for many Veterans and considers this her calling.

Steve was a simple man and was grateful for anything any one did for him.  He spent his last years leading a quiet life watching his beloved football and baseball games on TV and reading his bible.  He really loved sweets, any kind, but especially candy.

Steve is survived by one niece, and a brother who is unable to attend his service due to health reasons.  His caregiver, Gerry Golia, has reached out to us on his behalf and will attend.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.
