It is an honor the Los Angeles Police Department and the family of Police Officer II Fernando Uriel Arroyos invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services.

Officer Fernando Arroyos was the only son of immigrant parents and grew up in Los Angeles, CA in a household with his mother, grandmother and stepfather. He attended 42nd Street Elementary School and Audubon Middle School and graduated from Crenshaw High in 2012.

Fernando had two wishes in life, being the first in his family to graduate from college, and becoming a Los Angeles Police Officer. He wanted to give back to the community that had given him so much. After graduating from Crenshaw High School, Fernando attended the University of California Berkeley, graduating with honors in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies.

On December 26, 2018, Fernando's second wish became a reality as he joined the Los Angeles Police Department. After completing his probationary period on the Department he was assigned to the Olympic Division. He was very excited to be assigned to the area where he grew up.

Fernando's supervisors believed he had exceptional policing instincts. He was of uncommon humility and dedication who was often the first to arrive at roll call and always with a smile. He always sat in the same seat in the briefing room.

His Lieutenant was approving one of his reports and noted his exceptional writing skills. The Lieutenant asked Fernando where he attended school. Fernando said, “the Los Angeles Unified School District, Sir.” The Lieutenant thought he was joking and asked where he really went to school. Fernando took a deep breath and said, “no offense or disrespect, Sir, but I went to University of California Berkeley.” The Lieutenant asked him why he did not pursue his law studies and join the FBI, Fernando replied he wanted to protect and serve his community. Fernando's drive to help his community was unparalleled among his peers. He came to work everyday without looking for praise or reward. He came to work with heart.

On January 10, 2022, at approximately 9:00pm Fernando and his girlfriend were looking for a home to purchase close to where he grew up, but not too close to where he worked. They were looking for one large enough to accommodate his mother, his girlfriend and himself. A group of local gang members approached Fernando and pointed a gun at him demanding a gold chain he was wearing around his neck. One of the gang members grabbed Fernando's girlfriend and began to search her. Fernando drew his weapon and exchanged gunfire striking one of the suspects, unfortunately, Fernando was struck in the exchange and succumbed to his injuries.

The Los Angeles Police Department Olympic Division had a brass plaque made and attached it to the back of “Fernando's” chair in the briefing room. The plaque reads, “Police Officer II Fernando Uriel Arroyos, Serial No. 43835, Olympic Area, SOW: December 26, 2018  EOW January 10, 2022, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God”, Matthew 5:9. (this was Fernando's favorite verse)

Officer Arroyos is survived by his Mother, Father and Stepfather, and Girlfriend.
