The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family to honor their hero, 1SG Robert J. Phillips at his funeral service and military honors, it will be our privilege to do so.
We have been invited to honor a retired U.S. Army Vet who served in WWII, Korea & Vietnam, 1SG Robert J. Phillips, also known as Bob 'Top' Phillips, 89. Total service 30 yrs, 9 mo, 25 days. This Hero had a long and illustrious history in the military, he served with the Blackhorse Regiment Calvary, 11th ACR, in WWII with the 405 CAN and Infantry 102nd Div Ozark. He served during the Korean War, then retired, but remained in the National Guard. His NG unit was called to active duty in 1968 and he felt he could help the young soldiers who were dying and was honored to return to duty and served in Vietnam with the Blackhorse Regiment.
Bob 'Top' continued to mentor the men and women who served throughout his life. Attending Blackhorse reunions and visiting the Vietnam Memorial Wall right up until his health would no longer allow him to do so. He had a sticker on his car honoring the Blackhorse Regiment Calvary Motorcycle Club, and maintained a 'Military Room' at his home with all his memorabilia collected over the years.
After the military he settled in the Los Angeles area with his family and began working for Warner Bros studios in security. In later years he worked for and eventually volunteered as a docent for the Warner Bros Museum, where he remained until he was 87 yrs old.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Mary Jane 'Janie' Phillips, 3 sons, James Phillips, Joseph Phillips, and Michael Farnsley, and 1 daughter Tonie Hielshire, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson, many other family members, friends, and of course his brothers of the Blackhorse Calvary.
This will be a service at the mortuary chapel at Pierce Bros Memorial Park, No. Hollywood, with full military honors. There will be no escort or interment, just a Flag Line at the mortuary.

NOTE: It will be at least an hour and fifteen minutes before next Flag Line. You are encouraged to not exit or return with loud pipes during this period which may disturb the services. It is suggested to pack a nice lunch and take time to have quite respectful conversation with fellow PGR members while services are in progress. You are also invited to participate in the services if you wish. Please plan your wait in a manner that does not detract from the family and friends in the area.)

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).
