The family of CPO Gilbert Eugene Hanley Jr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to our country. It will be our privilege to do so.
CPO Hanley passed away at 86 years old of natural causes.
Gene (as he liked to be called) joined the Navy in September 1954 and was honorably discharged in September 1974. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer, E-7. Gene served two tours in Japan, one tour in Hawaii where he was one of few enlisted men to fly with the Airborne Command Post, and he spent the last four years of his career in the Underground with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His specialty was the Intelligence Field. Gene’s last tour was at SAC Headquarters at Offutt AFB in Bellevue, NE. That is when he was the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Underground at Offutt.
After retiring from the military, Gene went to work for Beneficial Finance and retired from there after 21 years of employment.
Gene was an avid golfer and was on the board of SCGA Men’s Club and Senior Men’s at Willowbrook Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling and bike riding.
Gene is survived by his wife Trudy, sons David and Daniel (Kim), daughters Debbie (Terry), Rachelle (Dominick) and Renee. He has 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
