The family of Robert Gary Minor, age 72, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Robert Minor served proudly in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1990. Time spent as an Aviation Electronics Technician and Aircrewmen onboard HH-46D helicopters at Naval Air Station North Island. His awards are many but the highest one, Navy Air Medal, was his favorite. He retired at the rank of ATC, Aviation Electronics Technician Chief.
He was called Gary by all who knew him. Gary passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. He was born in Wheeling WV to Junior and Tommie Minor. They relocated to Savannah GA when he was 7. He was the second oldest of six children. Gary graduated from Savannah High School in 1968 and joined the military in January 1970. He met his wife Margaret (Maggie) in the military. They married in Key West Florida in 1973 and moved to California in 1974.
After serving his country, Gary was a contractor for the military. Gary loved to travel. He traveled the world for work and out of the numerous countries on 6 continents that he had the pleasure of visiting, his favorite countries were Japan and Germany. He and Maggie loved visiting family and friends. Gary and Maggie were married for 49 years. Gary was a member of Santee United Methodist Church and was baptized there. He served as Head of Trustees for many years. He enjoyed Ushering and greeting everyone that came through the doors of the Church. He loved his family and spent every minute he could with them. He didn’t say much but listened to everything people had to say. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing with his golf group the Dewsweepers.
Gary is survived by his wife Margaret Minor, children Kevin Minor, Heather Hege, his 4 grandchildren Daquota Avila, Jessica Hege, and Joey and Christopher Minor, his brother Sam Minor, and sisters Julene Johnson and Lucette Sappington, along with many nieces and nephews.

For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission, all PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
