The family of Walter Truslow Slattery, 93, a terrific father, grandfather, and friend as well as a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp (WWII - Guadalcanal), has invited the PGR to accompany him to his final resting place as he receives his Military honors, we are privileged to do so.

Walter (known as Walt or "Slats") was born on July 16, 1921 in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed away on April 17, 2015 and now will finally be interred with his brothers and sisters of the military.

In 1942, just after World War II started, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps.  He valued this service and held the rank of Technical Sergeant. As part of this service, he was a photo-lithographer and air-mapper on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands.

Walter loved the ocean, eagles, camping, nature, gardening, and reading. He was great at telling funny stories and loved to cook.

His loved ones remember with fondness his honesty, kindness, humor, compassion for others and also his favorite quote, “Don't get old, you won't like it.”

Walter, preceded in death by spouse, Annelle Sumner Slattery (2014), is survived by his three children; son, Bill (Irma) Slattery, daughters, Suzy Slattery and Laurie (Evan) James, as well as eight grandchildren; Donna (Paul) Carrion, Angela Stegman, Jessica Stegman, Lauren James, Samantha James, Sabrina Slattery, Brianna Slattery, and Anneliese Slattery as well as; two great-grandchildren; Arianna Carrion and Jonathan Carrion. He is remembered with love always- gone, though never to be forgotten.

NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the family home to his final resting place.
