Part 2 of 2 PartsThe family of CFC Daniel F. Harris, 40, and the US Navy, have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this Hero with an accompany from the mortuary to the cemetery for burial. We are honored to do so.
Chief Firecontrolman Daniel Harris, a resident of Newberry, South Carolina, who died aboard the USS Oklahoma during the December 7, 1941 attack of Pearl Harbor, has been identified over 80 years later and will now be returning home.
Fire Controlmen were highly skilled technicians responsible for the operation of various forms of range finding gear, as well as the solving of ballistics calculations to control the firing of the ship’s guns.
Harris served on the USS Oklahoma, a battle ship that was hit by several Japanese torpedoes during the attack on Pearl Harbor. With its port side torn open over much of its length, the ship rolled over and sank to the bottom of the harbor. Over 400 crewmembers, including Harris, died during the attack.
We are grateful that CFC Harris is now returning home and will be buried among his fellow Sailors here in So California, and we are grateful that the PGR was included as a part of this.
