The family of Jose Herman Gonzales, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the military honors of their loved.  It will be our honor to fulfill their request.

“Joe G,” as he was known by family and friends, served in the United States Marine Corps from July 1958 to July 1964.  He was stationed in Hawaii as a supply admin clerk responsible for loading military aircraft.  He also served in the California Army National Guard as a driver of a M48A5 main battle tank.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal E-3.

After his exit from the Corps, Joe became a law enforcement officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and retired after 26 years.  He worked a variety of assignments, mostly in the Rampart Division:  patrol, vice, detectives, Special Problems Unit (Felony detail), and Community Relations.  For many years Joe was involved in setting up the annual LAPD Memorial Golf Tournament.

Joe cherished spending time with his wife Christine.  He was an avid fisherman.  Joe was also involved in the "Inland Empire Blues" monthly gathering of retired Los Angeles Police Officers, helping to set up the tables for breakfast and acted as a greeter.

Joe is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Michael and Kathy; and five grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister and one brother.
