The family of Jonathan W. Buchan and the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in their loved one’s funeral services. It will be an honor to do so.

Jonathan was born 30 AUG 89 and raised in Santa Clarita.  Jonathan graduated from Saugus High School in 2008. His name is on the Saugus High School Wall of Honor.

After high school, Jonathan joined the United State Marine Corps in 2008.  Jonathan excelled in everything and became a member of the 1st RECON, serving two combat tours in Afghanistan and received an honorable discharge in 2012.

Jonathan served as a member of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

In 2019, Jonathan joined the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.  Deputy Buchan was named the Honor Recruit of LASD Recruit Class 443 in 2020.  This award is earned by the recruit who achieved the highest numerical average based on leadership qualities, academics, marksmanship, and physical performance throughout the training period.

Deputy Buchan began his career at the North County Correctional Facility and then was assigned to LASD Century Station, where he completed his field training program.

Jonathan enjoyed helping others achieve their goals and always put others before himself.  He loved his family, his faith, outdoors, hiking, bicycle riding, playing the bagpipes and sports.

Sadly, on 20 JAN 23, Deputy Jonathan W. Buchan passed away.

Jonathan is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Cynthia, and sisters, Kimberley and Lindsay.
