The United States Navy and the family of Machinist’s Mate Chief Petty Officer Derek-Austin Thorpe Sr. have invited the Patriot Guard to be there as they bid their final good-bye to their hero. We are honored to be able to participate.
MMC Thorpe was preparing for his retirement from the Navy after a twenty-three-year career, when he unexpectedly passed away at age 51.
A huge Dallas Cowboys fan, Derek is survived by his wife Mercedes and 6-year-old son, Derek, Jr. Additionally, he leaves behind parents, siblings and several nieces and nephews.
NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the Chapel to his final resting place.
