This is Part 1 of a 2 Part Mission.  Part 2 will be posted by SoCentral PGR

The Patriot Guard Riders has been Invited by the United States Army and the family of Corporal Carmen Carrillo to Honor their Hero and is privileged to do so.

On February 2, 2023, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Corporal Carmen Carrillo, missing from the Korean War and is bringing him home.

Corporal Carrillo entered the U.S. Army from California and served in Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. In mid-May 1951, this unit was holding a defensive position on a hill crest between the Hongkong and Soyang rivers, South Korea, in the central sector of the larger U.N. defensive line called the "No Name Line."

The position was strong, but on May 16 it came under attack from overwhelming numbers of Chinese and North Korean troops. The enemy eventually began overrunning the area, forcing parts of the regiment to fall back to new positions.

By May 18, enemy units were infiltrating to the rear of the regiment and some companies had to redeploy to face this threat from behind. The 38th Infantry ultimately held the line but suffered many casualties during this massive attack. CPL Carrillo was reported missing in action on May 17, but the exact circumstances of his loss are unknown.  He was officially listed as KIA in December of 1953.

In 2013 the Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed in Action Recovery and Identification recovered multiple sets of remains near Gangwon Hongchun, R.O.K., which is consistent with the area associated with Carrillo. Six sets of remains were transferred to the United States, believed to belong to U.S. Service Members.

The remains were disinterred on September 22, 2021, and transferred to the DPAA Laboratory for testing. The laboratory analysis and the totality of the circumstantial evidence available established one set of remains as those of CPL Carrillo.

Carrillo’s name is recorded on the American Battle Monuments Commission’s Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, along with the others who are still missing from the Korean War. A rosette will be placed next to his name to indicate he has been accounted for.
