The family of Rudolf “Rudi” Andreas Nelson, 76 has requested the assistance of the Patriot Guard Riders in honoring their Hero on the occasion of his final military gonors at Riverside National Cemetery.  We will proudly accommodate that request.

Rudi served in the US Army and USAR serving on active duty for two years, 1967-1969, in West Germany and Vietnam.  Upon his honorable separation from his military service, he was a 1st Lieutenant.  His MOS was 0215 General Communications Officer.  He was decorated with the NDSM, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his service to the Army our hero continued his education on the GI Bill earning a BS in Business from Pepperdine University.  He worked for Honeywell for 30 years.  Rudi was also an accomplished musician and played sax, guitar, piano and drums.  He was known to be a fine dancer competing in the swing and hustle styles.  He loved cars and was an avid comic book collector.

Rudi was born in what was Dutch East Indies (now Jakarta, Indonesia) shortly after that nation’s liberation from the Japanese WWII occupation.  His parents had been interred by the Japanese during that period.  At the age of six his family moved to Holland and later immigrated to America via the HMS Queen Mary entering the USA through Ellis Island.

Our hero is survived by his son, Tyler Nelson, his older sister, Elizabeth Maria, and niece, Tiffany Jamison (our POC).
