PART 2:  FUNERAL SERVICE AND MILITARY HONORS

The United States Army and the family of Tech Sgt Robert T. Allen, 20, have requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero from the Greatest Generation as he is laid to rest.  It will be our honor to participate.

A native of Oakland, Allen, 20, was a crew member assigned to the 860th Bombardment Squadron, 493rd Bombardment Group, in the war’s European theater, when he was killed in action on 18 August 1944, after the B-24H “Liberator,” on which he was serving was struck by anti-aircraft fire following a bombing raid on a German position near Roye, France.  Only one airman survived, while the other eight crew members, including Allen, were killed.  German records indicate the bomber crashed roughly two kilometers west of Boussicourt, where the remains of several individuals were recovered and buried in a village cemetery near Pierrepont-sur-Avre, France.

Allen was accounted for 19 September 2023 by the U.S. Defense Department’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency after soldiers’ remains had been excavated in 2018 from a site near Boussicourt, France, for laboratory analysis. For more details about Allen, visit bit.ly/3VPJsg5 online.
