The family of Anthony Tony Barrera, 68, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders be present as their father is rendered military honors for his service to our country. We are honored to fulfill their request.
Anthony served in the US Army from September 1972 to November 1975 and stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged as SP4 (E-4).
Anthony, aka, Tony, and lovingly called "Poppa T" and "Bubbas’’ always told the story how he always wanted to be a US Postman since he was a child. Upon his exit from the Army, he fulfilled that dream and served as a mailman for the United States Postal Service for 41 years. He retired in August 2019. He served and enjoyed his position as Trustee for the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) #41 union.
In his off time from work and after retirement, Tony enjoyed traveling, camping, golfing, bowling, and baseball. He was a total fan of the Green Bay Packers football team. Listening to Patsy Cline music was a tradition for many years on every trip out to Bishop to go fishing with his friends. He used to say every morning “Thank you Lord for blessing me with this new day.” He loved life. He was extremely kind and giving to all. Tony would help anyone who asked for or needed help, no matter the circumstance.
Tony is predeceased by his oldest son, Anthony Tony, Jr, who passed away this past February. He leaves behind two other sons, Michael and Chris, and daughter, Melissa. Also left behind is his sister, Darlene; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
As well, Tony is survived by his companion of 20 years, Magdalena Alonzo, and their blended family addition of three sons Eric , Vincent, and Jason Alonzo; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He is loved him to the moon and back. There is no measure of how much he loved his family. He will be truly missed by family and friends.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, less than 20 miles. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
