Carson G. Koepsell, 94, USA/Korea - FLO/RNC - 30 August 2024

NOTE:  I have one PGR member who will help with the folding of the flag; I need another person to help.  Please let me know if you are able and thanks so much!

At the request of his granddaughter, the Patriot Guard Riders has been invited to attend the memorial service of Carson George Koepsell.  It will be our honor to fulfill her request.

Our hero passed in South Carolina where a tribute was paid.  Family members did not attend the tribute since they had traveled back several times before his passing.  As such, a memorial service is being held at Riverside National Cemetery.  Two of our PGR members will be folding the flag and presenting to daughter, Sally.  Our hero donated his body to science.

Carson served 21 months in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged on 05-03-1952.  He received the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), UN Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star.

After military life, he worked in the automotive industry, becoming the owner of Foothill Motors/Fontana Datsun and International Paving Services.

Carson enjoyed car shows, racing cars and boats, and retreating to his cabin in Lake Arrowhead.

Our hero is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilou (passing just prior to their 67th their anniversary), as well as their children, Sally, Curtis, Kevin, Cynthia, and Amy.  He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He sister, June, predeceased him in 1997.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, this is a flag line only (FLO) mission at Riverside National Cemetery.  For those who would like to participate, please see the timetable and we will meet you there.

"Standing For Those Who Stood For Us"

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance through the rain.”

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
