**NOTE: THERE HAS BEEN A TIME CHANGE FOR THIS MISSION.  PLEASE SEE THE *NEW* TIME TABLE BELOW**

It is an honor the family of Mel Guy requests the Patriot Guard Riders participate in his funeral and military honors.

The son of a coal miner, Mel was born in Pennsylvania, 4 AUG 27 and was one of 12 children.  Growing up Mel soon learned he had to help make money in order for his family to survive.  Mel dropped out of school in the 7th and did anything he could to help his dad and family.  Mel had a deep love for his country and at the age of 17 he joined the Navy and later the Air Force to fight in WWII.  Mel was stationed in the Pacific Theater aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La.

After Mel's discharge from the military he made his way to California and became very successful in the sheet metal trade, owning his company Mel Guy Industrial Sheet Metal, Signal Hill, CA., for over 60 years.

Mel enjoyed playing pool, camping and building 4-wheel drive Jeeps.  He was an avid collector of antique single action Colts and was well known around the country and abroad as one of the foremost experts of single action Colts.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Bonnie; son, USMC George (Spike) Guy (KIA Vietnam) and daughter, Debbie Guy.  Mel is survived by his daughters, Sheila Maynard and Melissa Guy; and son, former USA Ranger Jim Guy.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to his business and then to his final resting place.
