The Family of Barry Dean Swanson has requested the Patriot Guard to Honor this American Hero. It will be our Honor to do so.
Barry joined the United States Army in 1972. Following basic training he was sent directly to Vietnam. Barry was assigned to the elite 101st. Airborne. Barrys job was door gunner on a Huey UH-1 Iroquois.
Barry got an Honorable Discharge from the Army as a PFC in 1975. He loved the Army, and he loved his Country.
After the service Barry did a number of jobs, always searching, always experimenting. Among some of his endeavors, he was a mason, IT Engineer, Business Owner, & Security Adviser.
Barry loved water skiing, dirt bike racing, muscle cars, and riding his Harley with this son Jeremy. Barry and Jeremy once took off on a ride to be together just to hang out and ended up in Washington DC at the wall.
Barry was working on a clients home last Thursday installing an alarm system when the clients son burst thru the front door and shot the Dad, his Uncle, and Barry an innocent person. All 3 perished in the incident.
Barry left a lasting impression on both his family and the community, Barry lived with his son Jeremy in his home in Riverside. A father to three children and five grandchildren, ages 2-17, Barry was called "Papi" by all of them.
To his family, he was a sweet, kindhearted grandfather who led family vacations and cracked his kids up with daily jokes and an infectious smile.
"He wasn't the kind of person who required much to make him smile. But he was really great at making other people smile", son Jeremy said.
Barry leaves behind three children, five Grandchildren and hundreds of friends and relatives. Barry never knew a stranger.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church services to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

Barry Dean SwansonYou do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
