The family of retired Petty Officer First Class Ralph Emil Merten has invited the patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our honor to do so.

Ralph proudly served our country in the United States Navy for 20 years, and retired as an AMS1.  Ralph was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the following medals and ribbons: 2-Navy Achievement Medals, 3-Meritorious Unit Commendations , Navy "E" Ribbon, 4- Good Conduct Awards , 2-Navy Expeditionary Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, 2-Humanitarian Service Medals, 3- Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Unit Civil Action Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device 60, and Marksman Pistol.

Ralph is survived by his wife Cherryl, and other loved ones.

The family has requested accompaniment from the North University Branch Community Library, San Diego to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 1 mile.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
