The family of Matthew Paul Sobolewski has invited the PGR to honor their Hero for his Military Service and it would be an honor to do so.

Matt Sobolewski served in the US Navy from  09 NOV 87 - 06 SEP 96. Matt was a  BT2 (Boiler Tech 2) As a Boiler Technician.  Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Paul Sobolewski operated and maintained the ship's steam-driven propulsion and electrical generation systems.

Matt served aboard the USS Mars (AFS-1)and the USS Reasoner (FF-1063) and was initiated into the "Order of Neptune" as a "Shellback" when he crossed the equator during a WESTPAC cruise.

While being stationed on the USS Mars  (AFS-1) and the USS Reasoner (FF-1063)  Matt achieved the status of "Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist" (ESWS). Matts deployments included the "Persian Gulf", and the "Liberation of Kuwait".

Later on while stationed at SIMA Naval Station in San Diego,Ca, Matt became and served as a member of the "Navy Funeral Honor Guard".

Matt received the following medals for his service in the United States Navy: Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom medal,  the Kuwait Liberation Medal,  Southwest Asia Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award Navy "E"  Ribbon (Battle Efficiency), Navy Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2).

In his civilian life Matt was employed by Birmingham Controls Inc.,Cerritos,Ca. as Shop Foreman and Field Service Engineer and on assignment at the Exxon Mobil Refinery in Torrance.

Matt was a Patriot and loved honoring his fellow veterans and fallen service members.  He posted photos of the fallen on Facebook daily, and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Matt loved to surf,and fish, and volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts, and at local school sporting events. He also enjoyed the beach, dancing and spending his free time with his family.

Matt is survived by his wife: Reyna, Son: Edward Tripp, and Stepchildren: Tricia Perkins, Alan Tripp, April Steenberg,  Reyna’s Children: Mildred, Manuel, Natalie, Jimmy & Tony.   

He also leaves behind his mother Donna of Bradenton, FL, 3 brothers, (Michael, Edward and Paul), 5 Sisters (Therese, Susan, Christa, Maria and Rebecca), their spouses and 12 nieces and nephews, and 9 grandchildren.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the funeral home to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
