The US Marine Corps and the family of PFC George B. Murray have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to meet the arrival of this Hero as he comes home to his family after 73 years, we will be honored to do so.
George Bernard Murray, of Oceano, CA, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 22, 1943, on November 20, 1943 he was killed in combat on the beach on the Japanese held island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll. He was killed during the first day of an intense 4 day battle that claimed the lives of over 800 US Marines. He was serving as part of the 2nd Marine Regiment.
His remains were not recovered at that time and he was pronounced Missing in Action. Through the ongoing efforts of the US Government his remains have now been identified through DNA comparison from family members. He will now come home to be buried receiving the honor he deserves for giving his life for our freedom, and giving his family some closure after all these years.
His immediate family has passed on, father Burnett aka "Boots", mother Edith, and sister Thelma Murray, all 3 served in the USMC. He has 10 surviving family members including George and Hazel Winslett, nephews Bill Winslett and Donald Anderson, and niece Carol Winslett Rivas and their children.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the airport to the mortuary. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the mortuary, we will meet you there. IMPORTANT: If you wish to join the procession at any stopping point below, please arrive at least 30 minutes early.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
