The family of John Kelley "Jack" Hayes, age 83, have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their Hero and honor him on the day of his funeral, we would be honored to do so.
John Kelley Hayes enlisted in the USMC on 31 March 1953, he served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge at the rank of Sgt on 30 March 1956. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
"Jack", as he was always known to his family and friends, was always very proud of his military service, always a "Marine". Throughout his life he remained very involved in veteran related activities. He was a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) post 8680 in Rancho Cucamonga for over 20 years where he served as a member of the Honor Guard team. He also, with his team members, honored in excess of 1000 Heroes at their funerals over the years.
In his civilian life Jack worked as a manager for several companies, among them Firestone, Safeway, and Superior Fast Freight. He was also very active in his community in Rancho Cucamonga. One of the things he enjoyed was working with the Boy Scouts helping with their Flag Retirement ceremonies, making sure our country's Flag was properly and respectfully disposed of when they become tattered and torn. Jack made such important contributions to his community he was once named Rancho Cucamonga's "Citizen of the Year".
Jack is survived by his wife Betty, son Kelley, daughters Vicki and Brenda, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the family home to his final resting place (Approx 38.5 miles). Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
