The family of Bruce Black has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Bruce was in the U.S. Army from1966 to 1971 serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5.

Bruce spent his career in the television industry, primarily on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He retired not long after Johnny did and he and Vikki moved to Big Bear where he purchase a house on five acres.

Lt. Col. Bruce Black joined the Civil Air Patrol in 2005 with Big Bear Sq6750. He became very active with Cadets and Aerospace Education at both the squadron and group levels. He served as Commander of the Big Bear Sq. from 2006 to 2009 and with selfless dedication stepping back as interim commander while currently serving as the Group 3 Deputy Commander.

Lt. Col. Black earned his Gil Rob Wilson Award in 2010 after attending National Staff College where he was roommates with now Major General Mark Smith.

One of his many hobbies was researching historical facts about CAP and early pioneers. Digging up little known facts aboutk the lives of Mary Feik, Amelia Earhart and many others.

Some of Bruce’s other hobbies included a large model train collection that had a room dedicated to it and its layout. He also enjoyed splitting wood, lots of wood.
