The family Don Fred James invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services and military honors. It is with honor we accept this invitation.
Don James is the father of one of our own, Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy Tom James.
Don was born and raised in Whittier, CA. Don enlisted in the Navy in OCT 1957. As a Sonarman, his duties took him to South America, Cuba, Northern Europe and the East Coast of the United States.
Don proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in JUL 1961 at the rank of DOG3/Sonarman Petty Officer 3rd class. Don continued his service in the Navy Reserves until JUL 1963.
After the Navy, Don joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department in 1963 and proudly served the citizens of Los Angeles County until his retirement in 1990, at the rank of Lieutenant.
Don earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. He was a certified scuba diver and loved the sea. He enjoyed his sailboats, traveling and cruising the world. He found time to give back by doing volunteer work at the Murrieta Police and Fire Departments and various community events. Don loved Rottweilers, Mexican food, exercise, social activities and keeping in touch with friends online.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lupe; sons, Kevin and Tom; Granddaughter, Ashley and daughter-in-law, Nicole.
