The family and the US Army have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the funeral of their Hero, Cpl Joseph Marciel, age 20, who was Killed In Action in Afghanistan on July 7, 2018. We will be honored to do so.

Cpl. Joseph Maciel of South Gate, California, died July 7, 2018, in Tarin Kowt District, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan from wounds sustained during an apparent insider attack. An insider attack is identified as an enemy who planted himself within the Afghanistan troops who were being trained by our Army who then turned on our Hero and others and attacked.

Maciel was assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia. Task Force 1-28 Infantry is currently deployed in support of the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade.

Cpl Maciel is described as a fun loving soul who enjoyed spending time with his cousins in his home town of Long Beach. He loved playing paintball and basketball and going to the beach.  He joined the Army just after High School at 18 years of age, which did not surprise his family as he was always dutiful.  He loved the Army and was very proud of being a soldier.

Cpl Maciel is survived by his mother and father, and 5 siblings.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero.
