The family of Deryck A Bacon has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Deryck Bacon, 58, grew up in New Hampshire.  He joined the US Marine Corps right out of high school in 1977 at the age of 18.  Although he had wanted to have a career with the Marines, he was medically discharged in 1980.

In civilian life Deryck worked as a cook while supporting his wife and her two children.  Deryck would eventually fall on hard times becoming one of the 40,000 US veterans living homeless on the streets.  Sadly, this hero was killed when a hit and run driver veered off the road and ran him over while he was sleeping on a San Diego sidewalk.

This hero’s widow wants to bury her Marine with the honors he deserves and the PGR has been invited.  She has requested an accompaniment from Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 14 miles.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying this hero from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
