The Family of Larry Cardenas age 88, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to this country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Larry enlisted into the U.S.Navy in 1948. He was assigned to the destroyer USS DeHaven during the Korean War from 1948 - 1952. Larry was honorably discharged as E-3 Seaman. Larry was a Gunner Mate and as such was a 5 inch projectile loader in Turret 2.  During his time aboard the USS DeHaven, his ship was actively involved in enemy bombardment from sea in support of ground troops. Larry served three tours in Korean War.

Larry was born in El Paso, Texas. After Larry discharged, he served 40 years in the Aircraft industry. He was employed with McDonnell Douglas and later Northrop Grumman.

After his retirement in 1995, his hobbies were coaching kids in baseball and football at Penmar Park in Venice Ca. He also was a Chaplin and Honor Guard for the AmVets Post 2 in Culver City. Larry volunteers with Meals-On-Wheels for over 25 yrs. He was also a faithful member and Crossing Guard at St. Marks Church during school hours.

Mr. Cardenas is survived by his son Mark and Daughter Mary (James) and two grand daughters Lily and Emily with his great grandson Albert.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances and son Albert.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying this hero from the mortuary to the Cemetery. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.  If you wish to go directly to the cemetery, please arrive Not Later Than 1145 hours.
