The family of Ernest Henry Hardaway has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Ernest Hardaway, 80, served in United States Navy for 15 years.  A Marine Mechanic, Ernest served in both Korea and the Republic of Vietnam and attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer before finishing his career on the USS Halsey in San Diego.  His military decorations include the Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

Ernest’s post military career was in civil service working as an air conditioning and refrigeration specialist for the United States Navy Public Works Center in San Diego.

Ernest, always a good listener, dedicated much of his time to others.  He shared his infinite wisdom, loyal friendship, unwavering faith in the Lord and his desire for all around him to live abundantly.  He was known to be passionate about his childhood music-the blues; and really enjoyed gospel music.  He possessed an uncanny ability to be of service, love others, forgive, and “the breaking of bread” with both family and friends.  He was a good cook with a few of his specialties being smoked brisket, chicken and ribs, mustard greens, and chicken and dumplings. Some of his favorite meals were salmon croquettes with grits, catfish, short ribs, liver with onions, and greens with hot water cornbread.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying this hero to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
