Leonard Clark Knight, 82, Korea, USA, San Diego, 14 MAR 14

The family of Leonard C. Knight has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the services of their loved one and to honor this American Hero.  We are honored to do so.

Leonard served in the US Army enlisting in Oct. 1952, and attained the rank of CPL.  Having served in Korea he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal.  He was discharged on Sept. 1954.

Leonard was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Shelburne Falls, Vermont.  He quit high school and enlisted the Army and, after service in Korea, moved to Nebraska where he worked as a welder, handyman, guitar teacher, painter and body-and-fender man.

Expressing his love for the Lord, Leonard created and constructed Salvation Mountain in Niland, CA.  Salvation Mountain became Nationally known and was visited by people from all over the U.S.
Documentary films were made about Knight and his mountain.  The Folk Art Society of American declared that Salvation Mountain must be saved.  In the Congressional Record, U.S. Sen, Barbara Boxer called the mountain “a national treasure…a sculpture for the ages – profoundly strange and beautifully accessible.”

Knight is survived by a brother, Frank and sisters Irene and Norma.

Note:  This notice is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested all are welcome.  We will accompany the hero and his family from El Cajon Mortuary to Ft.
