The family of Norman Willard.Klino has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Mr. Klino proudly served his country, in the United States Navy in active duty from 1961 through 1965, and he continued his service in the US Navy Reserves until 1967. Upon his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.
Mr. Klino served as a Radioman with Patrol Squadron 4 (VP4) stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was among the first to fly in reconnaissance missions in the Tonkin Gulf at the start of the Vietnam War. His service to his country in the US Navy were the proudest years in his life and dominated his personality and identity.
He left the Navy to take care of his younger siblings. Norm started his civilian career as a machinist, and also served as a reserve deputy for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department during his off hours. He then took his machining skills to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where he then transitioned to Mechanical Engineer with the Nuclear Test Engineering Division. He spent 23 years at LLNL, with much of his time spent at the Nevada Test Site where he built and tested weapons. He was also very active in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
Mr. Klino was always very appreciative of those who served, and would frequently buy diner or coffee for a fellow veteran, just to say “thank you for your service”. Norm was a long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and he loved fishing, playing golf, and bowling.
Mr. Klino is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty, his sons Andrew (PGR Member in Northern California), Thomas, and Norman, his brothers Melvin, Rick, and Roy, his sister Sharon, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
The family has requested an accompaniment from North University Community Branch Library, San Diego, a distance of 1 mile. It is our privilege to do so.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
