The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to honor US Navy Veteran Charles Bernard “Bud” Ekman for his service. It will be our honor to do so.
Bud was born May 25, 1921 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Carl Ekman and Matilda Renner. Bud passed from natural causes at the age of 98 on September 6, 2019, at home with family by his side.
Bud served in the Minnesota National Guard from May 1938 to December 1939. Bud was also a veteran of the US Navy, serving from September 1944 to June 1946, during World War II. An Electrical Engineer, he worked in the power generation field and retired in 1983. Bud spent his retirement enjoying golf, woodworking, and reading, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife Elcie and all of his family.
Bud leaves behind his loving family: Son, John Ekman (Ellen) of Cerritos, Daughter, Mary Ekman of Montebello, Son, Robert Ekman (Veronica) of Camarillo, Grandchildren, Steven Ekman and Celeste Ekman of Camarillo, but also leaves behind a large extended family and many friends who will greatly miss him.
Bud was met at Heaven's Gate by his loving wife of 66 years, Elcie,as well as his brothers: Donald, Richard, Robert, and Merlin.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church services to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
