Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), a non-profit organization. has invited the Patriot Guard to attend the Key Turning Ceremony for US Army Soldier, SPC Carlos Gomez, Wounded Warrior, in Menifee, CA and we are honored to do so.
HFOT has built SPC Gomez and his two sons, a home that has been adapted to his needs and will be mortgage free. HFOT has done this for many Wounded Warriors across the country.
Carlos Gomez joined the Army as an Infantryman when he was 20, wanting to provide a better life for his then five-year-old son, Aaron.
He deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 with the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Three months into the deployment, SPC Gomez’s squad was returning from a routine patrol in Khost Province when his vehicle drove over a 600-pound improvised explosive device (IED), ejecting him from the vehicle and rendering him unconscious throughout his medical evacuation. When he woke, he learned that his best friend had been killed in the blast, and that he had sustained severe injuries to his right leg, right hand, and back.
Once he arrived in the United States, Carlos’ right leg was amputated above the knee; doctors also fused his spine.
