!!!PLEASE NOTE. SHORT NOTICE!!!

The family of Robert “Bob” Miles has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Robert Frederick Miles was 85 years old when he passed away.  He was born in Anaheim, CA on April 5, 1935 and passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife, son, and immediate family.

Bob began his military service in the US Air Force in 1954, serving our country in Vietnam.  He was also stationed in various other locations around the world.  He retired in 1974 as a Tech Sergeant.  Early in his military service, he married Suzanne Tyrrel (Sue) in 1957.  They eventually settled in Moreno Valley, CA and raised their children, Robert and Kathy.

Using his experience of organizing sports activities in the military, upon his retirement, Bob segued into employment as Director of Riverside County’s Department of Parks and Recreation.  He was an influential force in the development of activities within the community.  Bob was named “Honorary Mayor of Moreno Valley…for a Day!”  Due to his devotion to community sports, a field is named after him at Sunnymead Park:  “Miles Field.”  Additionally, he was a trailblazer in securing the historical signs for Highway 395 in Moreno Valley.

Outside of his professional life, he was an integral part of coaching, officiating, and promoting softball, volleyball, and basketball in the community.  Bob was also a “CIF Softball Umpire.”  He retired as Moreno Valley’s Superintendent of Recreation in 1997.

In addition, Bob eased into retirement enjoying additional time with his family; and nothing gave Bob more pleasure than imparting bits of wisdom into their lives.  He was also able to pursue his passion for trains, country western music, and selling his crafts while accompanying his wife, Sue, when she attended line dancing workshops.
