The family of James Roosevelt Coleman has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their hero to his final resting place. We are honored to have been selected to join with the family in this journey and participating in his final Military Honors and committal ceremony.

James, known by all as “JR” was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi only son of Walter and Stella Coleman and the oldest of their three children.

He joined the Army in May of 1942, served in a Heavy Equipment Construction group as a driver in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII until January, 1946. He was later recalled to active duty in September of 1950 during the Korean War. Our hero became a Certified Auto Mechanic and served in Germany until February 1956 when he was honorably discharged for a second time.

Following his WWII service he settled in Oakland, California, and was a warehouse foreman at the Naval Supply Center. He met his wife, Rose in 1962, while working co-op Union 76 as a mechanic. They married and raised their two children, Christopher and Eva in that area.

His son Christopher Coleman is known to many of us, as he has been very active with the PGR and ALR. It was he that requested this mission and we are honored to serve our brother in this difficult time.

James was known as a man who loved Lord, his family and dominoes. In retirement he moved to Oxnard and was a member of Post 48 of the American Legion, Oxnard.

Our hero is survived by his loving wife, Rose and their two children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents and his sisters, Alice and Pauline.

We are humbled and proud to join this Hero's family on this special day. The accompaniment is only a few city blocks.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

IMPORTANT: Please observe all COVID 19 restrictions masks/face coverings are required while on this mission and 6 ft distancing from others, before, during and after missions.
