The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked by the family of Jose Luis Moreno Sr. to pay Honors to this American Hero. It will be our privilege to do so.
Jose was born on Dec. 26,1940, one day after Christmas. He was always a very happy kid, and carried that same attitude with him into his adult life. He always had time to help someone else, and if they needed the shirt off his back, he would have given that to them as well.
When the time came for Jose to serve his country, he heeded the call and became a proud member of the 86th Airborne in the United States Army. When he was asked what was the most memorable time he could remember in the service, he stated, “Sitting on the tarmac waiting for President Kennedy to make a decision on the Cuban Missile Crisis." Jose received his Honorable Discharge at the rank of SP-4 RA after serving for three years.
Once out of the Army, Jose began working as a sheet metal worker. After a back injury, he worked as an eligibility technician for 20 years, helping people through red tape to obtain benefits that were eligible to them. He also served the community by working with Veterans and coaching kids’ soccer and baseball. He would help underprivileged kids stay on the straight and narrow.
On Feb. 19, 2021 the Good Lord called Jose home.
Jose is survived by his loving wife, Josephine, and son, Jose Moreno, Jr. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
