The family of HTC Dennis Paul Rasmussen, USN(Ret), has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

Dennis was born on 19 September 1950.

Dennis served his country for twenty-seven years in the U.S. Navy, a time that included two tours of duty in Vietnam, one on land on Mobile Base II and the other off shore aboard the USS New Orleans demining Haiphong Harbor. On 08 February 1974 The USS New Orleans was part of the U.S. Navy Recovery Force that picked up Astronauts Carr, Gibson and Pogue aboard the Skylab 4 on splash down in the Pacific Ocean. After twelve years of active duty, Dennis decided to leave the Navy to be closer to his wife and start a family. He continued in the Navy Reserves and retired after twenty-seven years total service. His awards/citations included the Good Conduct Medal(multiple), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V”. Dennis retired as a Hull Maintenance Technician Chief (HTC, E-7) in 1996.

After leaving active duty, Dennis began a career at Marty Moore’s Motorhome Repair Shop. He was a welder, refrigerator repair and anything else “guy”. After working at Marty Moore’s for twenty-seven years he retired in 2005.

Dennis was an active member of the Poway Elks Lodge #2543 for twenty-five years. He volunteered his time working with veterans, cooking and doing different jobs around the Lodge. He was also a life member of VFW Post 7907.

Dennis enjoyed gardening, playing shuffleboard, pool, and cheering on the Chargers and Cornhuskers football teams.

Dennis is survived by his wife Janet and daughters Jennifer and Jessica and son Ryan. He also leaves behind two sisters, one brother and three grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
