Part 1 of 2 Parts

The family of Patrick Lee Hurley, age 73, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor our Hero, one of our own, we are so very honored to do so.

Patrick Hurley enlisted in 1971 and served his country honorably in the US Army as a Lt Weapons Infantryman with the 101st Airborne for five years 8 1/2 months, being discharged on 11 July 1976. He attained the rank of SP4 (E4) prior to his discharge. He is a Vietnam veteran and has earned the following awards/decorations: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, and Marksman (M16).

After his service in the Military, Pat worked as a Maintenance Engineer at several large Hotel chains in San Diego until retirement. Pat went to a San Diego high school, attended college at Kansas State University, and was an avid roller skater during his youth. Pat loved riding his motorcycle and was always a big supporter of the military. He also loved riding horses in his younger years. In later years he was a founding member of the PGR in the San Diego area in 2006, and was a Ride Captain for many years until his move, several years ago, to Texas. Pat was also a founding member of the American Legion Riders of National City, CA, Post 255.

Pat is pre-deceased by both his parents, his sister, and is survived by his loving wife Helen, many other family members, friends, and his PGR family.  Pat will never be forgotten.

This is a Pony Express Mission originating in El Paso, TX, and being handled all the way by Pat's dear friends RC Chuck "Machine" Johnson and  RC Bill "Doc" Reid and terminating in San Diego, CA, with subsequent interment in San Diego, CA. This stage of the mission covers the dignified transfer from Yuma PGR to SoCal PGR bringing Pat home to So Calif for burial.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.
