The family of EM2/UT1 LU-ELLEN HAYS, USN/USNR SEABEE, 14 Jul 1937 – 25 Dec 2021, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend a Celebration of Life Memorial Service and graveside Military Honors for their Hero, we are Honored to attend.

Lu-Ellen Hays, 84, of Lone Pine, California, passed away on Saturday December 25, 2021.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Mt. Whitney Funeral Home in Lone Pine, Ca followed by a Military Honors graveside service at Mt. Whitney Cemetery.

Lu was born 14 July 1937 in Los Angeles, California.  In 1956 he enlisted in the US Navy as an Electricians Mate and served 4 years on Active Duty.  In late 1959 his last duty station was aboard the USS Stark County (LST-1134) as an Electricians Mate Second Class Petty Officer.  While on Active Duty he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.  In 1960 Lu transferred and served in the US Navy Reserves until he retired in 1998 as a Seabee Utilities man (UT) First Class Petty Officer attached to Reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 17 at China Lake Naval Weapons Center. 

In 1965, Lu went to work for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles until 1969 when he moved to the Owens Valley working in the Lone Pine area.  He retired from LADWP in 1997 after 30 years.  He enjoyed horses, hunting and fishing, friends and family time and basketball.  He will be missed by many.

There will be a reception following Military Honors at Mt. Whitney Golf Course from 1- 4pm.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be beginning this mission in Ridgecrest then riding to Lone Pine, approx 77 miles, and accompanying the Hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. If you prefer to meet the procession at the mortuary or the cemetery please feel free to do so.

NOTES:  Please observe COVID- 19 protocol wearing face covering and social distancing while attending this service. Please dress warm as cold temperatures are expected. Please bring parade flags and hand -held flags for flag line, as well as communication capability via CB if so equipped.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
