The family of Timothy A. Schoos has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Timothy served proudly in the US Navy from 1959 to 1970 achieving the rank of MM2. At the age of 17 he was assigned to the USS OKINAWA, an amphibious assault ship. His 12 years of Naval service included support for the United States’ stance at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Bay of Pigs Missile Crisis, October 1962, a year long presence in the Indochina Sea during the Vietnam conflict, providing a base for Marine Helicopter Squadron(s) to strike insurgents, 1967, and the re-commission, after intensive specialized training, for the Apollo Spacecraft Recovery Program, 1968 through his departure from service, October 1970, in which he was Honorably Discharged. He was awarded a Bronze Star and 2 Good Conduct Medals.
Tim was born May 5, 1942 in Everett Washington to Claude and Violet Schoos, the second of six boys; Steve, Ron, Mark, Mike and Chris. The family moved to Ana Cortes, Washington, first on a 14 acre farm and then into town. As a teenager Tim got his first car, a 1930 Model A. The car had been discarded and left to rot. The neighboring farmer told Tim, “you can have it, if you can move it” and move it he did, thus, the beginning of his lifelong passion for restoring vintage cars and trucks. That 1930 Model A is still in the family 65 years later. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Tim’s second vehicle, a 1938 Ford pickup. The truck was lost one winter afternoon while doing donuts on Lake Cranberry. The ice gave way, the 38 Ford sank and Tim was lucky to survive.
After being Honorably discharged from the Navy Tim settled in Poway, then later in Ramona, and began his second career with the Poway Unified School District. “Mr. Tim”, as he was affectionately known, worked primarily at Black Mountain Middle School and then his most beloved, Tierra Bonita Elementary School. He loved working with all of the staff there and especially enjoyed the daily interaction with “the kids.” There was nothing he couldn’t fix and his endless smiles and kind words were given freely and often. His Tierra Bonita family honored him as, “King for a Day” presenting him with a jeweled crown, blue velvet robe and a golden scepter just before his retirement, after 36 years, in June 2006.
His retirement years were filled with favorite things, “my girl Joyce” (Morgan), his handful of vintage vehicles, in various states of restoration, the many camping excursions, annual trips to Laughlin, cooling off in the pool, endless car shows & car club meetings, the planning and facilitating of charity events through his membership with Pickups Limited, FOOTBALL, both college and professional. He cheered for the Chargers but loved his Seattle Seahawks. Go Hawks!, the “organizing & reorganizing” of his (many!) 50 States Quarter collection(s), the early mornings spent shooting the breeze over coffee with his buddies Gus, Walt & Neil, to name a few, the Sheriff Volunteers who kept tabs on him, porch visits with the morning walkers at Ramona Terrace Estates, his “wives” Sandy, Lynette and Deb who gave only the best care possible to Joyce through her journey with Alzheimer’s and most certainly his fur babies, Buddy and Angel. There were also, too many to count, family occasions spent together over food, drink, love and laughter. When asked, “Do you have kids?” Dad often would reply, “Yes, Six. Four adopted and Shannon & Timmy”
He is survived by five of his children; Doug (deceased), Carol (Flip), Cheryal (Donna), Dolores (Steve), Shannon, and Tim Jr. (Doreen), 12 of his 13 Grandchildren; Elizabeth, Mila, Kenneth, Crystal (deceased) Kevin, Keith, Jacqueline, Ashley, Sage, Jessica, Christine, Kayla and Olivia.
Also, 17 Great Grandchildren; Tiana, Jonathan, Cheyenne, Alicia, Gabriel, Logan, Damien, Arianna, Dominic, Cheyanne, Trysten, Madison, Landon, Brock, Brinley, Kayden, and Blake and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren, Scarlett and Sebastian. He is also survived by his five brothers.
The family is requesting an accompaniment from the Mortuary to the cemetery.

For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the Mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. We will meet you there for those who would rather go directly to the cemetery.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
