The family of James Vernon Knott, MM3, USN, 81, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in a celebration of life honoring their hero. We honorably accept.
James "Jimmy" Knott was born May 26, 1940 in Oceanside, California. He grew up in Temecula, and enlisted in the US Navy after High School on August 6, 1958, serving four years of Active Duty as a Machinist Mate.
Jimmy was introduced to Ridgecrest in 1978 by his love of fast pitch softball. He played in several National and World Softball tournaments. He was regarded as one of the best pitchers in the Nation.
His parents, Vernon Kontt and Annie Santa Maria, precede him in death. His siblings, Eugene Knott, Charles Knott and Vernette Mackley.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Knorr, daughter Shawn (Louie) Ward, sons James Knott Jr. and Chad (Victoria) Depew, along with 21 grand children, 30 great-grandchildren, and countless extended family, all of whom say he gave the best hugs and had an infectious smile.
