Michael Coons, 74, USMC, Vietnam - FLO MNC - 17 MAY
« on: May 16, 2022, 03:52:20 AM »
The family of Michael Coons has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Michael Coons, 74, served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1966. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant (E5).  Michael he served in Vietnam as a machine gunner and from my understanding received 2 Purple Hearts and a bronze star. He also received various medals for being in the Vietnam war.

His death was unrelated to the war but he did suffer from physical problems related to wounds while in the war, such as shrapnel that has been inside of his face and body somewhere. The shrapnel was never fully removed from his body so he had chronic pain from these wounds.
His passion was carpentry and he was brilliant at it. He would make massive totem poles that were intricate and beautiful. He loved to be around his brothers Patrick (also known as “Dog”...who has passed) and his surviving brother Joe Bill. He has a great family that always embraced him and showed him nothing but love.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Morgan Rockcoons and Phelan Rockwell.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.  For those interested, and all are welcome, this service will be a flag line only at Miramar National Cemetery. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.
