The family of US Navy Veteran Michael Salas has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to this country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Michael served his country in the United States Navy from November 1966 through December 1971.  He served as a Corpsman in the Vietnam War.  For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, two Purple Heart Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Salas had obtained the rank of HM3 Hospital Corpsman Third Class.

In his civilian life, Michael worked as an Operating Room Assistant.

Michael is survived by his husband, Steven Irwin.  He is also survived by his brothers on his mother’s side (Richarte): Gil, Robert, and Vincent, and his brothers and sisters on his father’s side (Salas) Jesus, Ramon, Jose Antonio, Sergio, Alicia, Maria Isela, Consuelo, and Liliana.

The family has requested an accompaniment from the Oceanside Mortuary in Oceanside to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 27 miles.  It will be our honor to do so.
