The family of Rodrigo “Rudy” Magdamit Brizuela has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Rudy proudly service in the US Navy from 1963 to 1985, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received medals and ribbons for “Navy Meritorious Unit,” “Good Conduct” (4), “Navy Expeditionary,” “National Defense,” “Humanitarian Service,” “Navy Sea Service Deployment,” and “Republic of Vietnam Campaign” He proudly supported the evacuation of American civilians, at-risk Vietnamese, and Vietnam allies during “Operation Frequent Winds.”

During his military service, he became a “Drug Abuse Counselor.”  He conducted counseling sessions in group or in a one-on-one setting to military personnel undergoing drug abuse treatment. He was selected and commended as “Sailor of the Quarter” in 1981. He was then promoted to “Chief Petty Officer.” He was the “Leading Chief” of the Food Service Division. Rodrigo was awarded a grade of Excellent during the Supply Management inspection in 1982. He then worked in the Regional Financial Services Department and the Fleet Accounting and Disbursing Center towards retirement. Rodrigo served for 22 years with distinction.

After retirement from the Navy, Rudy worked for the California State Prisons Food Services Department as a “Supervising Correctional Cook” for 14 years and retired in 2003.  He had a passion for gardening and Karaoke. He was known as the “Handyman” and “The Cook.”

He is survived by his wife, Moonlight; his sons, Paul and Michael; daughter-in-law, Rowena; and granddaughter, Jasmine MoonAnne.

The family is requesting an accompaniment from the church to the cemetery.

NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the church to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
