The family of Tech Sgt. Matthew L. McKeon has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
In November of 1944, McKeon was assigned to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. His unit was engaged in battle with German forces near Hurtgen, Germany, in the Hurtgen Forest, when he was reported killed in action on Nov. 9. His remains could not be recovered during the battle.
They eventually located remains in a cemetery sometime in the mid 1940’s. They were disinterred in 2021 and sent to a lab in Nebraska to be examined. Where they were recently identified as Matthew L. McKeon’s remains.
The family is asking the PGR to accompany him to the El Cajon Mortuary. We will have a motor patrol escort.
NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the San Diego International Airport to El Cajon Mortuary, approx. 20 miles. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. We will meet you there for those who would rather go directly to the Mortuary.

We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, where you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely. Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep the radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
