The family of Robert Sherwood, 85, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the military honors as he makes his final journey.  We are privileged to honor their request.

Bob served in the United States Air Force from 05/56 - 05/76.  At the time of his retirement, he was a SMSgt (E-8).  He served in Vietnam from 1970-71 receiving a Bronze Star while there for his distinguished service.  He also served overseas in West Germany and Japan as well as several stateside assignments.

Following his honorable Air Force career, he worked for the San Bernardino County and was a teacher in the San Bernardino Unified School District.  Bob was an avid reader, Sudoku enthusiast, and world traveler.

Our hero is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Liselotte (Lilo) and their only child, Natasha Page.  He also leaves behind his son-in-law Evan and three grandchildren.  He is also survived by brothers John “Buck” (Iva) Sherwood, Wellington, OH; Delaney (Cathy) Sherwood, Eldred, PA; Garry (Deb) Sherwood, Eldred, PA; and sisters Alice (John) Chesebro, Smethport, PA; Ann (Kevin) Kinnard, Great Valley, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.  His sister Amber Saelens, and brother Larry “Mike” Sherwood preceded Bob in death.

Sadly, our hero succumbed to Parkinson’s Disease with dementia due to exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam.  As a result, this is a service-connected fatality and dog tags will be available.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
