The family of Gilbert Romero Salazar, 81, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his Military Honors as he makes his final journey.  We are privileged to honor their request.

Gilbert served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 11/29/1961 - 07/03/1966.  At the time of his separation from the Corps, he was a SGT (E-5).  He served a tour in Vietnam and that was extended to nearly two years.  He received a Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal while there as an 0311 Rifleman.

Following his honorable USMC service, he worked in real estate for 30 years owning his business dealing with real estate sales, title,  and escrow.  He was very active in his congregation.  He served often as worship leader and led bible studies.  He loved music in his church and at home with the family.  He and his wife, Lucy Ann, shared the joy of gardening and landscaping in their backyard.

Our hero is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 67 years, Lucy Ann.  They were married 10 months after he came home from Vietnam. He also leaves behind their three children: Gilbert, Scarlett, and Sebastian Salazar, as well as four grandchildren.  In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Berta Salazar Koza and Rosie Salazar, and numerous nieces and nephews.  His brother, Edward Salazar III, preceded our hero in death.

For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, this is a flag line only (FLO) mission at Riverside National Cemetery.
