The Patriot Guard has been invited by "Homes for Our Troops", a national, non-profit organization which builds specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans at no cost to these Heroes. They are preparing to build a home in Fallbrook for Marine Gunnery Sergeant Brian Meyer, a Wounded Warrior.

Marine Gunnery Sergeant Brian Meyer, is the true face of courage, as a Bomb Disposal Expert, he kept a smile on his face even immediately after he lost a leg, hand, and 3 fingers of the other hand when a bomb he was defusing exploded in 2011.  This brave Marine ordered a fellow Marine to take a Battlefield Photograph of him while being treated for his injuries, just minutes after suffering his injuries.   That photograph has been shown around the world and Marine Gunnery Sergeant Brian Meyer, is now called the Marine who ALWAYS keeps a smile on his face.   What an incredible mental attitude he has.  He ordered this photograph because he was afraid of the impact of his horrendous injuries would have on his fellow Squad Members and now he uses that image to inspire others while working with fellow wounded veterans.  Among the projects GySgt Meyer is involved with is Warfighter Made, which customizes sports cars, off-roaders and motorbikes for wounded veterans. He said: 'What we want is for a guy in the coolest car to drive up to a handicap spot and have people like, "What's this guy doing?" Then they see him get out with his prosthetic legs.'

After multiple surgeries, GySgt Meyer was outfitted for prosthetics and learned to walk again.  But, he wanted full independence.  He turned down offers for wheelchair ramps at his home.  He said: 'I focus on what I have left, not what I lost.'.  His prosthetic arm has a flashlight so at night he can see where he plants his prosthetic foot.  His prosthetic arm has knobs and battery pack positioned to one side so he can shoot a bow and arrow.   Thanks to the laser treatments on his scar tissue, he can now hold a toothbrush, write with a pen, dial his phone, and pull the trigger of his hunting rifle.  He is an active motorcycle rider.  That is a man who accepts NO limits on his life. Thank God for Americans like him!

This is the first official ceremony to help kick off and celebrate the start of Marine Gunnery Sergeant Brian Meyer's new home.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be providing a Flag line as our hero is brought to his Homesite.  The parking may be on dirt to be safe bring a kickstand pad.
