The family of Harry D. Penny Jr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Harry D. Penny Jr., 85, served in the Navy and in the Navy Reserves for 35 years from 1956 – 1991. He earned many awards during his time as a Hospital Corpsman serving two tours in Vietnam and one in Iraq during Desert Storm alongside his Marines. Some of his awards are Navy Achievement Medal (3), Good Conduct Medal (4), Navy Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal (2), Vietnam Service Medal (2), Southeast Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Recruiting Service Ribbon, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

During Harry’s reservist years he became a deputy sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, where after serving several years was medically retired after sustaining injuries received while in the line of duty. This didn’t slow Harry down as he became the published author of two books and several poems. His other passions were singing, sailing, and of course spending time with his family and friends.

Harry is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (2022) and they leave behind four children: Kevin 62, Laurie 56, Chad 52, Shalyn 46 and four grandchildren.

We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, where you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep the radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
