The family of John Elbert Bauer has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956, achieving the rank of Specialist 3rd Class. John served during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

John was a San Diego County Marshal for 27 years. He served warrants, picked up prisoners and transported them from other States to the California Office. He traveled the USA and into Mexico and Canada as well.

After his retirement he became a State Park Volunteer in California and all the way to Alaska. John enjoyed woodworking and also liked miniature trains and built a train track at home.

John is survived by wife; Tonie, stepchildren; John, Pam and Mark, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as children Linda, Harold, Nancy and Gary, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild from his first marriage to Barbara.

The family is requesting an accompaniment from the family residence to the cemetery.

For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our hero and his family from the family home to his final resting place. (approx. 30 miles). We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, where you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
